The 2020 Gala Online Auction, organized by BBLA and the Vaclav Havel Library Foundation, will benefit the program Best Mini-Drama Student Contest, a unique project that provides American and Czech young creative talents—aspiring playwrights—with an inspiring hands-on experience and space for exploration of cultural values and socio-political issues through theater.
The auction presents a very special group of Central European contemporary artworks created by renowned Czech artists—recipients of the prestigious Jindrich Chalupecky Award—Michal Gabriel (fine art print), Marketa Othova (photograph), Frantisek Skala (painting), and Petr Nikl (drawing). In addition, two memorable and rare photographs of Vaclav Havel—one of the most prominent thinkers of the 20th century, playwright, human rights activist, and the former president of the Czech Republic—by photojournalist Ondrej Nemec complete this portfolio of valuable works that will enrich any collection. Outside of the arts, we have a one-of-a-kind handmade silk wrap designed by Czech-American artist Anna VA Polesny, pioneer of ‘wearable art,’ and t-shirts featuring the iconic Havel’s signature with red heart.
