The Zlin Project (Czechia)

  • Bohemian National Hall 321 East 73rd Street New York, NY, 10021 United States (map)

An hour-long workshop, led by Marta Hermannova of The Zlin Project.  Marta and company members will lead participants through their process of creating The Zlin Project, discussing both the puppetry and the ways sound was incorporated in the development process. Opportunities for hands on participation in their process will be part of the workshop.

The Zlin Project is a puppet production about the life of the city of Zlin in the era of Tomas Bata – a Czech entrepreneur and founder of the Bata shoe company. Tomas Bata's advisor, Berty Zenaty, wanted to replace fairy-tale characters in children's stories in the 1920s with clever and skilled industrial workers. The Zlin Project explores everyday life that is functional, modern, universal, model, routine, and effective. Every day, all the time. Until an error occurs.
